Sultan Qaitbay built this picturesque castle during the 14th century to defend Alexandria from the encroaching Ottoman Empire. Which is now one of the most important monuments in Alexandria due to its excellent location and the beauty of its design.

The magnificent Pompey's Pillar that adorns one of the sites in Alexandria refers to a place that was once a huge and magnificent temple, built of marble and decorated with precious metals inside. Some of the tunnels around the complex are still open for tourists to explore.

I recently had the opportunity to take a day trip to Alexandria from Cairo with my husband, and we had an absolutely amazing time! The tour was very well-organized, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We were picked up from our hotel in Cairo in a comfortable air-conditioned car, and we drove to Alexandria in about two hours.
Our first stop was Pompey's Pillar, which is a towering Roman column that overlooks the city. We then went to the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, which are an underground burial complex that was built in the first century AD. Finally, we visited the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which is a modern library that was built on the site of the ancient Library of Alexandria.
